So London's first birthday is in 2 weeks! This last year has completely flown by in spite of how much I have tried to slow it all down. I can't believe that the little baby that I had in the hospital is now half my height and a soon to be toddler! I'm tearing up right now just thinking about it. He was so small when he was born, all the clothes he wore he basically swam in. Now he's wearing size 12-18 months! He's even finally beginning to sleep in his own bed thanks to sleep training (a whole different subject that I plan on talking about soon). I can't help but be sad that my baby is growing up so quickly but I'm also looking forward to the toddler years where I can watch him learn and change. Having a baby is such a bittersweet thing I can't even describe it.
Ok enough of this sappy talk- what I really wanted to talk about was how much work I've put into making his first birthday something special! For months now I've been planning what I was going to do- first I thought maybe have it at a park but then decided grandma's house would be a better idea. Of course his theme is monkey- what else would you expect?! But I couldn't just go buy invites, I decided that I had to be creative and make them! Not just create them but make photo invites. So a few weeks ago I did my own mini photo shoot for London's invites. Oh and I decided I HAD to make him a special birthday hat- which took 3 trips to different craft stores and two hours of work! Attempted to make him wear it for the mini photo shoot only to watch him pull my hard work off his head in less then a minute! My mom said I was torturing him because I kept taking pics when he didn't want to with the O, N and E! But I was able to get some good ones! I then had a great friend help me design and print the invites, but then that wasn't good enough. I got a few printed out as pictures too- for my own keeping! Now all the invites have been sent out and tonight I went to a party supply website and spent $50 on some supplies with his theme printed on them! Overindulgent would you say?! Plus on top of that for the last few weeks I've gone to different discount stores buying matching colored plates, napkins, streamers, balloons and more. I also decided I'm going to make his smash cake for him- and it has to be his theme monkey face. So this last weekend I did a practice cake to make sure I could do it, and I had to try making my own buttercreme because I want his first cake to have that delicious taste, so I made that too! Now I need to find a grocery store that will draw this monkey face onto a cake for the rest of the party guests to eat (which is proving to be problemsome but I'm staying positive)! We plan on getting pizza, soda, chips, dips and maybe making some special punch. Now all I need are tablecloths and possibly some colored Chinese take-out boxes that I'm thinking of filling up with something as centerpieces! haha... Oh and tonight I was thinking maybe making a big birthday banner for him to hang on the garage. LOL
Am I going overboard on something he will never remember? Yes- I'll admit it but is the first birthday for your baby or for yourself? I think it's more for me as his mom. He is only 1years old once right? I'm creating memories for us- for him memories through pictures- and for me memories of his first year of life, my first year as a mom, my first year with a baby, basically the first year of a completely different life. This will be the first and only time I get to celebrate his first birthday and the last time I truly get celebrate it while he is a baby. So did I go overboard on planning London's First Birthday? YES! But do I think it is worth it? ABSOLUTELY!
